Description

Kids have their toy trucks: fire trucks driven by Barbie, dump trucks for driving around loads of mini marshmallows, recycling trucks that have them going green at a young age. But all these trucks pale – literally, out of fear – in the face of their big truck counterparts. And while a life-size bulldozer doesn’t fit too well in the living room, you won’t have to worry about huge tire treads on the carpet at the inaugural Touch-a-Truck event held Saturday, May 7th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Colorado Springs’ Norris-Penrose Event Center. There’ll be dozens of trucks and crazy vehicles on hand – race cars, fire trucks, tow trucks, military vehicles, dump trucks (mega marshmallows not included), and more – for kids and adults to look at up-close, climb around on, and sit in the driver’s seat of. Plus, there’s a kid’s area with lots of neat activities for when the kids have seen one giant tire too many (as if that’s possible). A fundraiser for the Junior League of Colorado Springs, Touch-A-Truck has brought together local businesses and community organizations in an event that’s going to be an El Paso County classic. With this deal you’ll get family admission to this great event (entry for up to six people) for just $10. Spend the day with family and friends, check out some awesome vehicles, and support your local Junior League of Colorado Springs with this deal from The Gazette!

In 1924, a group of Colorado Springs women concerned about the survival of Nutrition Camp formed the Junior League of Colorado Springs (JLCS). The Nutrition Camp School helped malnourished children in Colorado Springs become healthier, thus fighting off the ravages of tuberculosis. The League sponsored five beds the first year. By 1939, the number of children helped reached 450.

Since then, the JLCS has built an impressive history of serving women and children in Colorado Springs through our volunteer membership. The JLCS has grown and evolved, both as initiator of projects, and as a ready partner to other non-profit organizations to address needs in the community.

All proceeds from Touch-a-Truck provide support for our community programs and initiatives including Kids in the Kitchen and Fantasy Flight. Kids in the Kitchen is a healthy eating, active living initiative that educates children and families about making healthy lifestyle choices with the goal of reducing the spread of childhood obesity and its related health consequences. Fantasy Flight takes place each December in partnership with SkyWest Airlines to take underprivileged children on a magical journey to the North Pole. Children take an actual round trip flight to the “North Pole” at the Colorado Springs Airport. They are then given, along with their families, a holiday meal, participate in fun activities and receive a gift from Santa.
